This was inspired by a one sentence description of a dance piece. I sat with the idea for a few minutes before starting to write. I know when the words are going to more or less work because it’s less like thinking and more like writing down the words as they come into my mind. Like a flow that I tap into. I don’t necessarily know where they are going when I start to write. It’s one of the things that fascinate me about writing, the imagery that is conjured from my subconscious seems to have far more potential than that I could consciously perceive.

Balloon

Dark and looming
Stormy seas
Crashing waves
Wash over me
The deep water
Pulls me down
Swirls and swirls
Setting the scene to drown
Stumble into blackness
A terrifying fall
Endless space beneath
Above the all of all
Infinite potential
Trust in one thing
You’ll never know everything
That twitch and tick
The nervous chatter
Afraid to observe
Those signals that really matter

In the depths of hell
A place you may find
This space you inhabit
If only in your mind
Scores of people
Lost in the ocean
Among garbage they left
Seeking solace in potions
Ideological action
The simplest solution
It seems the liberal faction
Ignores their own pollution

A conceptual truth
Ever evolving ideas
A work in progress
Over millions of years
Seeking comfortable cushions
That soften the blow
Lying to ourselves
The better we know
This elephant in the room
Approaching is an art
Or just pop one balloon
That’s somewhere to start
