My first encounter with Lucia, was when I was taking class at the Staatsballet in Munich. It was a day off for us at the Gartnerplatz theater, and an optional class for the staatsballet. I had seen Lucia a few times on stage, and was already a fan of her fantastic dancing. When I walked in and saw her, my first reaction was, WOW, some of the corp dancers are missing, but Lucia is here. I was impressed by her dedication and dicipline.
Lucia is one of the top ballerinas today. Her technique and quality is excellent. When you see her on stage there is no mistake that she is a star. Every time I see her perform she gets better… no really I mean it. And no wonder… look at her work ethic! You can see that she does not take shortcuts. Lucia is an inspiration.
Some years later, we were both performing at the CNB Gala in Lisbon, Portugal. I was nervous to approach her, but I introduced myself anyway. We had a great little chat and we even took a picture together. I was shocked at how warm she was. She was so sweet and friendly, the opposite of the bitchy-diva-ballerina stereotype. Her gala performance was even more amazing because of the conversation we had before. I was inspired. Since then, I always try to check my ego more often and to keep working hard, even when its optional……..
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you always want to do what you’re doing now?
I have always, since my farthest recollection, wanted to be a ballerina. I have never, not even for a single day, wanted to be anything else.
