Danscape, Saya Hishikawa, In”Mrs. Yasufuku is a woman in her late 60s and she has a huge love for ballet. Awhile back, she requested to do a photo shoot; she wanted to be shot as a ballerina. Even though she had very little ballet training, I didn’t reject her request. I gave her a tutu that I had at home and my old pair of pointe shoes (she always wanted to wear one). Bear in mind, she was never a ballet dancer, but what she did in front of the camera still amazes me. Her past didn’t matter to me, because the person who stood in front of me, at that moment, was a dancer. She was an artist.”

Saya Joins Interview En L’air with her new photography column called “Dancescape”. Dance is an art form that is created by the human body; every individual, every dancer expresses themselves in a different and unique way. “Dancescape” is a series of photographs in which I capture the unpredictable fusion between dancers and landscapes. The great outdoors is their new stage; how will each dancer stand in the spotlight?
So beautiful. I love the fresh perspective those who haven’t had the life of training can bring to an art form. It can be truly inspiring, thanks for sharing!
